Sundarijal gets its name from the deity named Sundari mai, the goddess who resides at the heart of the village development committee. This village lies in Kathmandu districts and right on the outskirts of Kathmandu city.

The place is famous and included in the around kathmandu valley hiking tour packages. Bagmati river makes its way to the city right from the middle of Sundarijal. This higher ground of this village as well is an extended part of Shivapuri Nagarjun National park. One of the famous sites in this village is the reservoir located on the top of the hill. Most of this village development committee is engulfed by the national park territory. A perfect place around Kathmandu for short trekking, hiking and cycling.
