Sankhu

Sankhu is a historical city located 17 kilometers northeast to Kathmandu city. Kathmandu. Sankhu was amongst the cities in Nepal which was totaled by the 2015 earthquake. The city still has its historical values and is inhabited by the indigenous community of Newari people. On the other hand, Sankhu is religiously important city for the followers of Hinduism and Buddhism. There are several temples like Bajrayogini and Madhav Narayan which is important religious site according to hindu mythology. Whereas, according to Buddhist beliefs Guru Padmasambhava gifted the golden icon to the monastery and left sacred teaching in the monastery and the surrounding.

Sankhu is located in the farmost northeastern corners of Kathmandu valley on the foot of beautiful forest. Several hikes and initiates and end here in Sankhu.
