Pheriche

Pheriche is a small village nestled in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It is located at an elevation of 4371 meters and is an important rest area for travellers, porters and sherpas. People usually stop in Pheriche as a part of acclimatization while ascending to the base camp.

Pheriche also has a basic hospital, which provides fundamental services. The hospital is open only in the two peak seasons and is staffed by volunteers from Nepal and physicians from countries like USA and Canada.

Pheriche primarily is a farming village but since the development of tourism in the region men get employed as guides, porters and Sherpas. On the other hand, the women of the village still engage in their age old profession.
