Kala Patthar

Kala Patthar is a peak adjacent to Gorak Shep but not a mountain. It is 5,550 meters in height but due to the fact that it does not require mountaineering permit to scale Kala Patthar it is famous amongst trekkers.

Kala Patthar means black rock in straight translation and over the years it has earned a name of the best vantage point for the mountains in the Everest region. It takes around 3 hours to reach the summit of Kala Patthar and 1 hour to get back to Gorakshep. Kala Patthar offers 360 degree views of mountains in the surrounding, including none other than everest itself.
