There are different theories behind the creation of this lake but most of the hindu mythologies have almost similar reason. It is believed to be created by the trident of lord shiva in desperate search of water after swallowing the poison created from tussle in between gods and demons. This holy site is flocked by tourists specially at Janai Purne. Gosainkunda lake is one of the major contributors of Trishuli river, which is one of the big tributaries in Nepal.
