Cycling in the Nagarjun Shivapuri is another short trip on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley and in the only national park surrounding the capital. This is one of our favourites as it avoids the city hustle and bustle and it is completely inside the natural park. There are several opportunities and this is not just bland cycling trips in the woods.

The trip would take anywhere in between 6-8 hours depending on your riding experience and expertise. The majority of track in the national park is single track but at times it gets a little wider. There are several small water stream that intersect the trail and there are countless puddles and ditches made by streams. Some portion of the trail is damp and wet whereas other trail is dry and solid. The view of Kathmandu valley towards the right is beautiful. Except for small ups and down most of the trail is downhill experience and absolutely lovely.

There are no villages along the Nagarjun Shivapuri National park trail but only houses in handful numbers. People waving at cyclists and hikers is a normal activity in the national park. We would make into one of these huts for a bowl of soupy noodle or a cup of tea and that as well is very rewarding. Towards the end of the trip we cycling along Bagmati river and all the way into the city until Jorpati.
