Risks of Solo Trekking in Nepal

Trekking is always fun. When it is in the land of Himalayas and you are surrounded by forests and hills, and of course ever smiling people with great hearts and who treat guests like god, treating is real fun.

Adventure is fun, and of course, Nepal is adventurous. Whether you go around Annapurna circuit or just roam around the hill surrounding Kathmandu valley, you cannot get all of Nepal if you do not trek. The real motivation is the adrenaline rush and the idea of walking side by side with unadulterated nature.

Whether you land in Nepal alone or in the group, you’re always welcome. And there is no partiality. You are a guest means you are a god. And spending some quality adventure time, all to yourself is always a great thing. But, along with fun, following are some risks you might come across while travelling in Nepal.

• Injuries

Trekking injuries are common. The slippery hills or the unmanaged pavements might lead to minor injuries and in some case major injuries. You’d better learn first aid techniques beforehand, and carry a small medical supply to keep you tamed or at least living until you get to a settlement.

• Health Hazards

When you travel, health always comes up as an important factor. But, when you are trekking, that too solo, it is the most important one. Trekking in Nepal often denotes to high regions, which means you might get altitude sickness, and you are advised not to ignore even small symptoms. Also, you might get vulnerable to some common diseases as common cold and diarrhea if not maintained oneself properly. Proper clothing and habits might get you off from many such.

• Getting Lost

Many areas in Nepal are not connected via networks. Flow of information somewhere still requires days. When you trek, you’d want to carry something that imparts GPS signal- Fully charged. Few people go missing every year in Nepal and some are not heard even till date.

• Looting

When the chances of you getting killed is below 0.01%, each people are not same. They’ll definitely treat you like god, but your money as blessings, and would want much blessings from god. You’d better be cautious on prices of materials and accommodations. Highly unlikely that even those loots would dare make a hole in your pockets, so, just a heads up.
