Tour Description
Before making plans to take this trip you need to ask yourselves 3 questions – 1. Are you willing to spend over two weeks in the mountains? 2. Do you have what it takes to be on the 3 Highest Passes in the world? and finally 3. Are you up for the biggest adventure in the life?
If you have answered all the 3 questions above in a yes, you surely are ready to take Everest high passes trek. The trek initiates from Lukla, alike the Everest base camp trek but separates after Namche bazaar. Unlike the base camp, this route is less travelled and only by the real enthusiast. The teahouses along the trail as well is very basic and gives you a close experience to that of camping.
This trip requires a lot of acclimatization rest and is very strenuous at times. The three passes Renjo La (5400m), cho La (5420m) and Kongma La (5540 m) are at the most rarest part of the Everest region and close to Tibet. The beauty of Everest high passes trek is that it as well takes you to famed peak of Gokyo Ri, Kala patthar and also the Everest base camp. The peaks that you would climb to does not require a peak permit from the mountaineering association of Nepal.

At the end of the day you will be briefed about the trip by your guide and this will be an opportunity for you to exchange word with your companion for the rest of the trip.
Note: Due to the increased air traffic during Nepal's peak trekking season, the government has moved all Lukla flights to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. Therefore, we will drive you to Manthali by car after lunch, a journey that takes about four hours. We will stay overnight in Manthali to ensure a smooth and efficient journey to Lukla the following day.

After landing on a 465 meter runway, we immediately retrieve our belongings and head towards the north to the village of Phakding. We make our way through the school build by Sir. Edmund Hillary in Kyangma, and further through the community forest, chortens, prayer walls, mani and finally through rustic suspension bridge, until we reach Phakding.

We start on the trail along raging Dudh Koshi river and make our first sheer uphill walk to Toktok, where awaits the beautiful view of Thamserku. We walk through villages intermingling with beautiful forest of Rhododendron, fir, magnolia and Pine. It is uttermost important for us to spend a day in Namche in order to acclimatize for higher ground. The day may be a rest day but it is important to be active even on a free day and being lethargic day around is the worst thing to do. We will do small side trips of 2-3 hours from and to Namche itself. Namche as well is the last stop in the Everest, if you wish to buy any forgotten things for your trek this may as well be a last chance. We spend this day as well on Namche.

The trail is usually gradual this day but as we have to cover 600m in ascent and descend and within 3 – 4 hours, so we start early after breakfast. The trail immediately enters dense yet beautiful forest of Rhododendron and Pine, by this time Yaks grazing with big bells by their neck is a common sighting but watch out for musk deer on this day. You will witness some beautiful mountains in the Everest region, namely Khumbila (5761m), Konde Ri and Pharchamo (6187m).

We start early in the morning to cover an ascent of 400m in 3 to 4 hours. It may look like a small distance to cover in a day but it is very important to be careful about any ascent you make further ascent; it may result to a dire consequence. Lungden is a small village surrounded by boulders, just below the Renjo – La pass and serves like the rest area or base camp for the pass, before ascending further on the next day .

We need to start earlier than the other days to complete our day’s trek on time. The ascent to Renjo – la is very demanding and on the contrary is very rewarding as well. The clear blue skies and eye popping views of gigantic peaks Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, Taboche and many others awaits on the top. The initial trail past Renjo – La to Gokyo is almost vertical and strenuous and towards further down, the trail becomes gradual. The end of the day is tiring yet it is very pleasing to rest besides turquoise blue, crystal clear reservoirs of Gokyo lakes, with the views of one of the ultra 8000er Cho Oyu.

After Days of strenuous hike it is uttermost important for us to call it a day and embrace the striking, turquoise lakes. Although it is a rest day and we will not do rapid hikes or treks on the day but will surely stroll around and see all the lakes in the periphery. We have our breakfast, lunch and dinner in Gokyo itself and enjoy the awe – inspiring views of the saw toothed mountains.
The trek starts early and after breakfast. The trail gradually but as we are ascending to one of the most rewarding viewpoints, the trail gets demanding. The view we get of Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and many other mountains, including the Dudh pokhari is unrivalled. After Gokyo RI we descend and immediately ascent on a gradual trail of ever changing Ngozumpa Glacier, until we reach Thaknak. After a long hike we rest here to get ready for yet another interesting on one of the highest passes on earth.

The days hike is one of the most demanding days in the itinerary of Everest 3 pass trek. The day starts with sheer ascend on the slopes and lose boulders but the view of Ama Dablam right in front and the Ngozumpa on the back and Pharilapche and Kyajo RI is very astonishing. The trail to Dzongla from Cho La pass is equally challenging, you will walk down looking at the broken face of Cho La glacier. After almost two hours of downhill, you will enjoy easy stroll in between beautiful peaks which seems like in the grasp of our palms, with the striking view of Ama Dablam, far down the valley. We call it a day at Dzongla.

The trail heads down on a grassy hill side, with the view of lake Chola Tso and the rugged Cholatse and Arakam. Further down we cross small streams and flat trails and one final effortless ascend to Lobuche. We walk through the narrow moraine and up towards Gorakshep. As we had a long day of walk and it is very important for us to take appropriate rest and past Lobuche, one needs to acclimatize, we rest in Gorakshep and observe the ambiance.

The walk to Everest base camp is tedious process because of the ever changing path of notorious Khumbu Icefall. Base camp is a beautiful hub for climbers who have been waiting for green signal to head further north. Base camp is a colorful village made out of tents, on the laps of some beautiful mountains with best cloud formations. The walk is not very demanding but is challenging due to the elevation factor. We take the same route back until Lobuche and rest in the same.

We start early and by the first sunlight in the morning to make it to the other side by the end of the day. It is important to refill water in hefty amount. The climb immediately gets sheer and strenuous from the very first moment and on the edge of a moraine until we reach to the top. On the top you will enter a flat surface with icy patches of lake and frozen ridges of Kongma La pass. From Kongma La to Chukkung is equally grinding downhill but the view of Island peak and ridge of Amphu Lapcha will sweep you off your feet. It is a must take break at Chukkung for two reason; one because of long day trek and 2nd for the reason that Chukkung is a beautiful village surrounded from ridges and glaciers from all sides.

From here we begin to descend and the trails are a little less demanding that a day before but the chilling winds on the ridges are bone piercing. With the beautiful views of Taboche, Cholatse, Amphu Lapcha and un recognizable north view of Ama Dablam, we stroll forward to our final destination, sometimes on the barren trails and for a while on the stone steps. We catch more breath than on the trails of higher ground and the view of the mountains behind is more beautiful than ever. We call it a night at the periphery of the famous and biggest Tengboche monastery, which has been restored to its original despite several tragedies.

The walk from Tengboche to Monjo is all in the woods of Rhododendron, pine and fir that blankets the hills. The forest encompassing the trail is dense and known to be the home of Himalayan thar, snow leopard and musk deer, it is very important to look for the opportunity to spot these wild animals despite the exhaustion. We make our way further to Namche, where you may want to take a look to cascade of houses and snap shots of it with the mountains in the backdrop. We further head down to couple of rustic bridges and through the warm breezes until we arrive Monjo and halt for the day.
