ALTERNATIVE ITINERARY DUE TO FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS:
The flights to Lukla and back are heavily dependent on weather conditions. As a result, flight being cancelled for one day, couple of days or for several days is a known phenomenon for flight companies in Nepal. In case we face such circumstances with your holiday plans in the Everest, we will be following a contingency plan and the plan would be as follows:
Day 2
In case your flight was cancelled on the previous day, we will attempt to board our flight on the second. This will be our second attempt to make that flight. In case we make it to Lukla on this day. We will follow our original itinerary from Lukla for the next 14 days.
Accommodation
- Local Teahouse ( 1 Night)
Meals Included
- 3 times meals during the trek (staple meal of Daal Bhat for lunch and dinner or any one item from the menu.)
Day 3
This will be the third and last attempt made to board your flight to Lukla. In case if you are not able to board the flight on this day as well, we would do our best to find an alternative. The best practiced alternative will be a helicopter to Lukla. The helicopter in a sharing basis will cost USD 500 per passenger. In case you take the Heli, you will be dropped in Lukla in around 45 minutes. In case we make it to Lukla on this day, we will still follow the original itinerary to Everest Base Camp and head back to catch our flight on the last day from Lukla.

Depending upon the package you select and the number of people in the Group, we will either take a private vehicle or a public jeep. The drive takes around 9 hours. This route to Everest Base camp was used by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first to scale Mt. Everest. It takes 4 days from here to join the main trail to the base camp. The trek joins the main trail in Monjo.

We start strolling on the same undulating trail we had left the earlier day. On this day we walk on the trail, carved on the hills, on the bank of Dudh koshi river. Several times we cross rustic suspension bridges to walk on the left and the right banks. The beautiful river side Buddhist settlement intermingled with sparse forest of Rhododendron, pine and fir is the main attraction of this day. We get the first glimpse of Thamserku 6608m, on this day. The final ascent to Namche Bazaar through sheer, crisscross and pine scented trail is the most difficult section of the day. In this section of the trek you will also feel the thin air kick in. On a clear day Namche offers the distant yet nice view of Mt. Everest

We take rest on this day to acclimatize with high altitude and an excellent day to explore Namche, its culture and the periphery. Namche is interesting town which has terrace like settlement and looks like an amphitheatre. This is the most happening and biggest town along the trail. The idea is to remain active during the day and not fall asleep, which is why we hike to Syangboche airport; one of the high altitude, non commercial air strip. We also take the opportunity to visit Khunde and Khumjung where we see the school built by Sir. Edmund Hillary. This village is famous for the monastery which claims to hold the Yeti skull. Furthermore, it is as well the hometown of renowned sherpa’s Appa Sherpa and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. We get back to Namche we relax and enjoy the view, meanwhile we get ready for the next day’s trek.

On this day the trail initiate with gentle ups and downs but every spur we take towards Tengboche seems to bring the mountains closer. As we make our way on the trails through the forest of Rhododendron we have to keep our eyes open for Himalayan Tahr and Musk Deer. The final 2 hours ascent is the most demanding section of the trek but we encounter water charged mani wheels and view of mountains which helps fuel us to walk further. We arrive at Tengboche which is a wide open grassy flat land where resides Tengboche monastery; famous and one of the largest in the Everest region.

We get gorgeous view of Island peak 6189 m, Peak 38 (7,591m) and Lhotse (8501 m), towards the right of Dingboche. We call it a day here and rest for the night.

Dingboche is a lovely place; even is such altitude it receives prolonged sunrise and the wind blows more calmly , compared to that of Periche. We spend a day in Dingboche which is a must to acclimatize. In order to acclimatize it is very important to stay active throughout the day and the idea is to not fall asleep in the day time. We trek around 400m to Nangkartshang Gompa, a viewpoint which offers slightly different angled views for mountains in Everest region and even East Makalu (8463 m). After climbing up to see the mountains we head back to have our lunch and further do photography, play card games or invent our games to spend the day.

Ascending from the very first moment, we make our way through small patches of village with splendid views of twin peak Taboche and Periche, above a barren created by vanished glacier. The trail further surpasses gravelly ridges which showcases the views of Ama Dablam and Kantega. We take a utter nerve wrecking uphill to a memorial that commemorates mountaineer who lost their lives in 1996, this is the most difficult ascend of the day. Further we ascent with the view of soaring Thamserku in front. We reach Lobuche and spend a night here.

It is very important to be careful on this day as we may feel the signs of AMS (acute mountain Sickness) but cautiously we head towards Gorak Shep. initially we follow the narrow gap between glacier moraine and the mountain. We make a very small but difficult climb to more technically difficult moraine with the first sighting to Gorakshep. Gorakshep 5180 m which is at the base of Kalapatthar 5545m, is a flat land and a sand basin, where we have our lunch. It is recommended to visit Kala Patthar on this day to view Himalayas of Everest region. Many people prefer Kala Patthar in the morning but it is not recommended due to the ruined view from sunrise behind the Everest. We either trek to Everest base camp or Kala Patthar and trek back to Gorakshep and spend the night.

If we made it to Kala Patthar on the previous day, we hike to Everest base camp on this day before we descend to Pheriche. We make a very nominal ascent of 200m this day but is very technical and takes almost 3 hours. We start our trek early at around 6 am to our destination which is a semi-permanent village made out of bright dome tents and boulder covered by prayer flags. Everest base camp is the hub of mountaineers who are waiting for green signal to climb further up, the view of the mountains are spectacular but Everest is not visible due to the towering mountains upfront. After spending brief moments in base camp we trek down for another hour to Gorakshep and further down to Dingboche in Next 2 hours.

Once you head out of Dingboche, you will walk through the prickly shrubs and in between the hills. Once you are out of Dingboche, you will come across herding areas of Bibre and Dusum, which often acts like snack stop points in peak tourist seasons. The views of Island peak from here is beautiful. The average time to reach to Chukkung valley is around 3 hours with couple of rests in between. This is a long day trip and there are other substitutes as well but this is one of the most demanding side trips. Once in Chukkung, the time to summit the peak of Chukkung Ri and back to Chukkung is just around 1 hour to the maximum. The view of the valley and the surrounding mountains is very rewarding. Overall, this side trip could take around 6-7 hours.

From Dingboche we leave early in the morning to reach the Imja valley. Be careful as the land is very rocky and the gust of wind is heavy and a lot of dust in the air. Once in Island Peak, you will call it a day. You will make ready of all the gears and also learn few things from your climbing sherpa. Overnight in Island peak base camp.

You do not need any prior peak climbing experience to reach to the peak of Island peak and it is an absolutely perfect peak to embark your journey as a climber. We will begin early and as early as 1:00 a.m. and begin towards the summit. By late morning, you should be on the top of the summit even at a very slow pace. The process to the top of the summit is extremely slow because of the elevation and arduous due to the slopes and icy condition. It is okay to feel worn down in every 5 minutes. Once on the top, you will be mesmerized by the views of towering mountains in the surrounding. We will spend brief moment in the summit and enjoy the victory and head down towards the base camp of Island peak. We will have packed and canned food for the day.

On your way, you will come across some beautiful sherpa villages of Shomare and Orsho. We will follow the regular trail back to Pangboche. Pangboche is a beautiful village with the views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Kongde range and many others. Overnight in Pangboche.
