Shey Phoksundo Lake
Mar 30, 2018
Shey Phoksundo lake is located in the Dolpo region of Nepal. Despite many folklores existing in the local communities this lake is a result of landslide blocking glacial melt from nearby mountains. The lake is located at 3611 meters from the sea level and is 1.91 sq miles. This makes Shey Phoksundo the second largest lake in Nepal after Rara.
The lakes hue resembles to that of Tibetan turquoise but some argue its color being emerald green. The lake is lifeless and as the traffic on foot is very less the lake is able to maintain its unsoiled ambiance. There are no settlements and no accommodation available around the lake. Hence, the only source of food and accommodation is the food carried along by the trekkers and the tents for accommodation.
