The local vehicle (bus or jeep) leaves Kathmandu at around 7 - 8 am in the morning and there only one highway that leads to Syabru besi. There are no options available when it comes to the choice of buses or jeeps. Mostly you will travel on unpaved, winding and hilly roads and the travel is bumpy along with it being crowded. The scenery on the other hand is amazing. The only option other than a local bus with jam packed people and frequent stops is a private 4 wheel sports utility vehicle. Once in Syabru besi you will call it a night and relax for the days to come. Overnight in Syabru.

Primarily you will walk on the trails of Langtang and branch off to Thulo Syabru. A lot of trekkers skip Thulo Syabru from the itinerary but this village is very important from the viewpoint of culture and tradition. After the 2015 earthquake, the village alike other villages of the region suffered a huge loss in terms of life and infrastructures. Once you are on a bridge that takes you to the other side of the Langtang Khola the trail climbs all the way to Thulo Syabru. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.

Right after Thulo Syabru you cross a suspension bridge and begin walking on the trail that traverses through a very dense forest of Rhododendron and pine. Often people in Thulo Syabru will tell you stories of how villagers randomly spot leopards and musk deer. Keep your eyes open because you never know if you would be able to spot not only these animals but also elusive red pandas. Buckle up, as you will mostly walk uphill in himalayan terrain. The trail firstly leads to Forpand Danda and furthermore to Dursagang. The prior destination lies at 3200 meters and the later at 2660 meters, so there will be a lot of walking down to the foot of the hill before ascending to the top. The mountains become closer and clearer as you move closer to your destination of the day. Towards the end of the day today you will walk through the forest of Oak, Hemlock and Firs. Overnight in Sing Gompa, which is also known by the name of Chandan bari.

Immediately out of Chandan bari or Sing Gompa, you will embark on the trail left behind a day before. Sighting of langur monkey is common if you do not scare them off with any sudden noise. The trail ascends gently on the first half to a pass namely Lauri Binayak La.The views from here of West Himal Chuli , Manaslu (8156 m), Ganesh Range, Langtang Lirung and the mountains in Tibet will make you feel like you have already reached the zenith of your trek. However, the trail from here becomes more steeper and on rugged terrain. The landscape from beyond the pass becomes barren. At a point, you will reach yak pastures and slowly these pastures open up to dozens of small lakes. These lakes are part of Gosainkunda basin. Overnight in Gosainkunda.

It is going to be a long descend and it will take anywhere from around 6-8 hours to descend 1320 meters from Gosainkunda to reach our final destination of the day. Immediately out of the lake, you will make your way through Laurebina La and then drop to Bheda Goth. From here there are two ways to reach Tharepati and it will be a huge mistake if you take the upper route as it has several hazardous and steep drops. Three hours down from Gosainkunda, you will reach Phedi; a place with basic teahouse out of nowhere. From Phedi the trail drops down to a stream and then climbs pretty steeply. This back breaking climb takes you to Kasturi Danda and further to Ghopte. Overnight in Ghopte.

From Phedi, it is a short uphill stroll to Thapati. A lot of trekkers heading back to Kathmandu prefer staying here but as the trail to Helambu branches from here and your next stop Tarke Ghyang is just around 4 hours away, you will begin walking towards it. Most of the day’s walk is all downhill and at times very steep. Soon, the mountain views disappear and you would enter forest and recurring landscape until you arrive Melamchi Ghyang. Overnight in Melamchi Ghyang.

There are two options to reach the bottom of the valley and we will not just walk to the bottom but trek to the beautiful stone village of Tarke Gyang. The trail quickly descends from the village of Melamchi Ghyang and then makes its way through dense forest. Through the forest and in the villages and hamlets you make through, you will witness a lot of chortens, gompas and monasteries. These infrastructures quickly makes you realize that this is the home of Buddhist people. Overnight in Tarke.

Ama Yangri is a special attraction of this treka and it is around 4-5 hours of a round trip from Tarke Gyang. Ama Yangri is a hill located on the northern end of the village and is considered as the deity and the protector of the entire Helambu valley. It is a nerve wrecking climb from Tarke Gyang to the peak of Ama Yangri as it is no child’s play to ascend 1200 meters within few hours. From the top of the hill, you can see the soul stilling views of mountains in the Langtang region and as far as Mt. Kanchenjunga. After spending some time with the deity, you will head back to the same hotel in Tarke Gyang.

This is the part of original Helambu circuit trek which is left out in today’s day due to construction of the roadways. However, there is still a way to include this beautiful destination on our itinerary. We will take the higher way out of Tarke Ghyang via Buddhist villages of Setighyang and Gangyul. The views of Langtang range is beautiful from this village. You will as well see the only school in the village where we have donated 14 warm blankets in the year of 2017. Overnight in Sermathang.

Initially we will dodge the newly built roadways and take the old trail down to Melamchi Bazaar. The bazaar is mostly inhabited by Sherpa people and few other mixed race. Once in Melamchi bazaar, the biggest town in the region, you will take a bus back to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, your guide will transfer you to your hotel and hence your Ama Yangri trek will come to an official end.
