The trek begins immediately after you land in lukla and receive your luggage. Immediately out of Lukla, you begin descending to the bottom of the valley at around 2200 meters to the village of Surke. From Surke river, the trail begins to climb again. The trail is more or less left on its own and is not entirely inhabited. Crossing couple of small villages and scattered homes, you reach to the pass namely Chutok La. After almost 6 hours of walking with rests in between, we make it to Paiya. The accommodation in Paiya is very basic. Overnight in Paiya.

Once again we begin our descent and we descend until you come across a small bridge. Beyond the bridge the trail is little damp, slippery and uphill. On the other hand, you make your way through beautiful forest of rhododendron and bamboo. The view of Dudh Koshi valley isn't less mesmerizing. With such pleasant views we keep walking towards the village of Panggom where people make living by farming and trading goods. The teahouses are very basic and functional only in season. Overnight in Oanggom.

Basically, neither you gain any altitude or lose any by the end of the day. Meanwhile, you will walk through beautiful tropical forest and climate. En route, you will come across small waterfall by the name of Nigsow waterfall and stream. The waterfall drop makes an excellent pond where you can cool yourself off on a warm summer day. This day by far would be one of the longest day on the trek. You would ascent around 1100 meters in total and accommodate around just 300 meters higher than the previous day. The day’s walk is a rollercoaster ride and long just because there is no proper place in between for accommodation. Nevertheless, the first ever climb to one of the hills namely Ramailo Danda, which means fun hill in direct translation, offers excellent views of Mera Peak. Fact: The trail from Ningsow to Chattra Khola is also known as Pasang Lhamu trail. Also, if you are lucky enough you would be able to spot red pandas on your way. Overnight in Chattra Khola.

The end destination of today, Kothe, would be the first real village after Lukla. The day is short compared to the previous day. However, the first part of the trek is still steep and climbs through narrow trail. By lunch, you will have already climbed around 3600 mark. Meaning, after lunch the trail gets much easier than the first half. On the first half we walk on the trail by Majhang Khola which further merges to Hinku Khola. The lush green vegetation makes its way to more dry, rocky and arid landscape in Kothe. If weather permits, the views of Mera Peak from Kothe is show stealer. Overnight in Kothe.

You may feel a little cold from this day onwards. Hence, it is advised to pack your daypack accordingly. It is good to start with layers on and later can be taken off once warmed up. The trail is no more a roller coaster ride but gradual. The views get prettier and the landscape as well. The first half of the trek includes climbing the ridge of Hinku Khola reaching Gondishung. This is a temporary settlement of herders where we would stop for lunch. After lunch we further head toward our final destination. On our way we come across a 200 years old Lungshuma Gompa. Further down the trail is our final destination of Khare where we will be spending the night.

Although Thaknak to Khare is doable in 3 hours, it is not recommended to speed to Khare. In a matter of 3-4 hours, you will have ascended 700 meters. Do not be frightened by the sound of glacier breaking as it is a natural phenomenon and often happening. The glacier breakings are too far from the trail. Once out of Thaknak, we march towards Dig Glacier and Dig Kharka. You will be breath taken by the glacier, Charpate Himal as well as a lake formed by it. From here you will begin walking to another glacier by the name of Shar Glacier. The final climb to Khare is steep. Once is Khare, you can enjoy side trips in an around here.

You would be showed on how to use your ropes, axes and harness and how to make different nodes. Furthermore, you would be trained how to act when climbing and at times of emergency. All in all this day would be fun filled day and will not include laborious acclimatization trip as it will be a big day next day. Overnight in Khare.

We would begin as early as 8 and head towards Mera High Camp. The trek to Mera Base camp from Khare is about 2 hours even with the slowest walk in the world added up with multiple rests in between. The trek immediately out of Khare is on dry and rocky landscape. In no time you will reach base camp of Mera Peak which is made of couple of tents on the edge of a huge rock and below the glacier. Depending upon the conditions, you may need to gear up from here on. The journey to the Mera High Camp is around 3 - 4 hours with slow pace and with multiple rests in between.
