Nepal is a tourism oriented country and changing your cash and getting Nepali currency would not be difficult. Right from the airport to the banks throughout the country and money exchanges located in Thamel or Pokhara can easily get it exchanged for you.
There are almost 30 class A banks in Nepal and around 70 class B bank. The biggest banks with many branches and easy processings are the first kind. They have their branches spread in majority of districts in Nepal and where there are no branches there are ATM’s. However, neither the atm’s and nor the banks have reached 80% of the places in the mountains.
In cities like Pokhara, Kathmandu, Bhairahawa, Butwal, Birgunj, Chitwan, Sauraha withdrawing money from the atm would not be a problem. It is important to as well know that some banks charge flat 400 Nepalese rupees and few charge 4% of the withdrawal amount. You can as well use money transfer facilities from western union and moneygram to receive it from any vendors offering the facility in Nepal. There are few places as well who still cash travelers cheques but do not forget they will charge you few rupees to get it done. For all money exchange facilities and bank work one must have valid identification.
