Thimi today as once known as Madhyapur Thimi in ancient time. It was once the 4th largest town of Kathmandu valley. Thimi meaning ‘capable people’ still reflect the rustic settings. The houses and the alley is made out of red brick and is stacked with temples in every block. It is dominantly inhabited by the descendants of the then newar families. Since the construction of the new Bhaktapur highway, this town has somehow become overshadowed and remains as a small alley on the backside.
Few things to see around Thimi is the Balkumari temple, Bode, Mahalaxmi temple, Balkumari Jatra and the Bisket Jatra.
